Some of the statements from liberal feminists we’ve been hearing over the years go something like “My body, My choice,” “Not the church, not the state, women will decide their fate,” “Keep your rosaries off my ovaries” and so on.
The recent SCOTUS decision in favor of Hobby Lobby and similar privately held companies has them going almost apoplectic. The thrust of their argument is that businesses like Hobby Lobby have been given the legal go ahead to deny their employees birth control pills. Never mind that Hobby Lobby’s insurance plan covers a wide range of contraceptives, just not abortifacients.
But what are they really demanding?
Sandra Fluke made a name for herself by claiming that she couldn’t afford the hundreds of dollars a month for birth control pills. She was studying to be a lawyer. If she can’t figure out that you don’t have to spend anywhere near that amount, would anyone really want to hire her? But I digress.
She implied the “right” (the definition of which could be another major discussion) to engage in promiscuity to whatever degree she wanted. And, as far as that goes, she does.
But what she and others of her mindset are insisting on is that they should not have to take any responsibility for their “right” to be promiscuous.
The only absolute guarantee that a woman will not get pregnant is abstinence. Any other form of contraception is not a guarantee. Yet, the “Flukes” insist not only upon their “right” to indulge in promiscuity, but also insist that everyone else take responsibility for the attempt to prevent the possible resultant pregnancy.
Should the attempt to prevent pregnancy fail, they are also insisting that everyone but them take responsibility for their lack of responsibility for accepting the consequences of their “right” (choice?) to be promiscuous.
I can’t get into Sandra Fluke’s mind, but I’m willing to bet that, should she get pregnant because of the failure of our funded contraceptives, she would not have an epiphany of responsibility and take care of her conceived child. Most likely, she would find the nearest free (tax payer funded) abortion clinic and have the consequences of her “right” killed and removed.
So what are they really demanding?
It would seem to me that they are insisting that we get involved with a number of facets of their lives. But, consistent with liberal hypocrisy, they want to be able to do whatever they want to do and we have to just pay up and shut up. If we are to take responsibility for their promiscuity, shouldn’t we have a say in how promiscuous they can be? Again, I digress.
They demand we pay for their contraceptives. Should the contraceptives fail, they demand we pay for the killing of their child (let’s tell it like it is, the deliberate and premeditated taking of human life). Should they decide not to abort the child, too many would demand that we pay for the support of the consequences of their “right” to be promiscuous. Should we, those who are taking responsibility for their promiscuity, raise an objection, they would howl.
In the real world, actions have consequences and as adults we are expected to take responsibility for the consequences of our actions. But that’s the real world, not the liberal world. In their world, the consequences of their actions are everyone else's responsibility, not theirs.
