Not a single gun shop can be found in this city because they are outlawed. Her parents beamed with pride.
’Wow…what a worthy goal.’ I told her, ‘But you don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that! You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.‘
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, ’ Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50? ‘
I said, ‘Welcome to Conservatism.’ Her parents still aren’t speaking to me.

Obama’s Justice Department Thugs attack one American state
If there is one Department in the Obama Regime that is totally out of control and is dedicated to pushing a political agenda, it has to be the Justice Department. Of course, the EPA is not far behind.
Unfortunately for America, the Justice Department has some real power. When that is being used for political objectives, it becomes a dangerous assault on the freedom and liberty of all Americans.
The Justice Department is now doing this against one American state. If they are successful, every red state will be targeted for the same thing.
What is going on and who is standing up to the Justice Department?
The state is Louisiana.
The Obama Regime and the NAACP’s Project Vote have sued the state.
Why?
The so-called “Motor voter” laws requires that all state agencies that help recipients of state benefits offer registration to voters. Both groups have alleged that Louisiana does not do so with “sufficient vigor.”
In one instance, the NAACP sent an undercover operative in to a Louisiana state office and asked about voter registration. The person they asked was busy at the time and said, “It is two doors down.”
That information was correct but according to Justice and the NAACP, the state employee should have stopped what they were doing and immediately registered this person to vote.
The NAACP and the Justice Department filed suit against Louisiana and the Secretary of State. There is no allegation that Louisiana suppresses voters. In fact, the state is has one of the highest rates of voter registration and voter participation.
The cases are in the Federal District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana. Unfortunately for real Americans, the Judge is a political hack appointed by Bill Clinton.
While the NAACP case has been tried and the state is awaiting a verdict, the Justice Department case is in the phase lawyers call, “Discovery.” Discovery is where the parties are required to exchange information and produce evidence so each side can be prepared for trial.
So far none of that is unusual.
But what happened next is.
As a part of discovery, the Justice Department demanded from Louisiana the complete voter rolls. This is not the data dump that any candidate for office can go to the Secretary of State’s office and pay for.
The information the Justice Department wants includes:
- Social Security Numbers
- Driver’s license Number
- Date of Birth
- Mother’s maiden name
- Date and place of all registrations
- All changes to registrations
Why has the Justice Department asked for this information? According to the Secretary of State’s office, they need to see if they have a case!
Lawyers do not file suit to see if they have a case. They have a case, then they file suit.
Louisiana has asked the Judge for protective orders that would restrict the distribution of this information and the Judge has refused this.
In Louisiana, there are about 2.8 million registered voters. This information is an identity thief’s dream. This is all the information that is needed to create literally millions of false accounts and steal millions of dollars.
Even more disturbing is the fact that data would be shared by certain liberal groups that use the technique of micro-targeting technology to help Democrats get elected.
These groups could not otherwise get this data.
One of the other dangerous parts of this data dump would be to show liberal groups what voters are registered but rarely if ever vote. Of course, we know liberals never engage in vote fraud so we would never have to worry about liberal groups sending people in to vote in the name of individuals who rarely vote.
This is a form of almost unstoppable vote fraud.
One other crucial piece of information the Justice Department is seeking is the source codes for the election system Louisiana uses. These codes are essential for the integrity of the elections and if an unauthorized person possessed them, the election date (i.e. votes) could be compromised.
Tom Schedler is the Secretary of State for Louisiana and he has decided enough is enough. There are a number of statutes that specifically forbid the release of the data that the Justice Department is demanding and the risk of the citizens of Louisiana being victimized is simply too great. Schedler is refusing to comply with the Judge’s order.
He is a brave and honorable man, risking jail rather than simply surrender to the thugs of the Justice Department.
After Judge James Brady, a hack Clinton appointee, refused to modify any of his orders to allow for protection of the data Justice is demanding, Louisiana decided to do a rare interlocutory appeal to the 5th circuit court of appeals in New Orleans.
The good news for America and for Louisiana is that Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal is supporting Schedler and the people of Louisiana.
Unfortunately the Department of Justice and other liberal groups are targeting other states the same way they have targeted Louisiana. The one criteria for targeting the state?
The states are red states.
If you live in a red state and the Department of Justice and these other liberal groups sue your state, your personal information could be compromised. You could become the victim of identity theft. Your personal information could end up in the hands of groups committed to turning American into a socialist hellhole.
Isn’t that reassuring.
One of the fastest ways to stop this non-sense would be to defund parts of the Justice Department that have become totally politicized. Another great idea would be for the Republicans in the House to put a provision into a must pass bill that prohibits the disclosure of this type of information.
Meanwhile in Louisiana, one man is willing to risk his liberty and freedom for a cause that is noble and just.

Southwestern Pennsylvania hospital to stop baby deliveries

Pregnant women in one southwestern Pennsylvania town will soon need to look elsewhere to deliver their babies, after a local hospital announced it will end the practice in March -- blaming ObamaCare in part for the decision.
The Windber Medical Center will stop delivering babies after March 31 because its obstetricians are either leaving or refocusing their practices, and because hospital officials believe they can't afford it based on projected reimbursements under looming federal health care reforms.
The hospital, about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, is losing two obstetricians and two others are shifting their focus more to gynecology.

I screwed up my IRS filing again.
I just received my tax return for 2011 back from the IRS. It puzzles me!!!
They are questioning how many dependents I claimed.
I guess it was because of my response to the question: "List all dependents?"

Jackie Chan hates America. Let’s hate him back
I’ve always liked actor Jackie Chan. His acrobatics in films are simply amazing. He seemed like a nice enough guy. But then like so many entertainers, he opened his mouth.

Americans know Jackie Chan best for his cheery, acrobatic performances in action movies such as “Rumble in the Bronx” and “Rush Hour,” made successful by his amazing martial artistry and self-effacing comedy. Chinese know Chan, a Hong Kong native, for largely the same reasons. But they also know him for something most Americans might find surprising: He is passionately political, a staunch defender of the Chinese Communist Party and harsh critic of anyone he sees as opposing Beijing. Today, that includes the United States.
Chan, responding to widespread criticism of China’s recent censorship of a popular news..., insisted in a Chinese TV interview that the United States is “the most corrupt country in the world.” He scolded Chinese who criticize their country in a way that foreigners can hear or see, adding that he’s careful to only praise China when giving interviews in the U.S.
Here are his comments, translated into English by Ministry of Tofu, which also has the video. It’s worth watching to see how animated he becomes when criticizing the U.S. and defending China. I don’t speak Chinese, unfortunately, but if you’re like me then you can follow him a little by listening for the word “Meiguo,” which means America. (Fun fact: It translates literally to “beautiful country.”)
Jackie Chan: The New China. The real success has been made in the past dozen of years. Our country’s president also admits they have the corruption problem, and some other stuff, but we are making progress. What I can see is our country is continuously making progress and learning. If you talk about corruption, the entire world, the United State, has no corruption?
Host: America.
Chan: The most corrupt in the world.
Host: Really?
Chan: Of course. Where does this Great Breakdown [financial crisis] come from? It started exactly from the world, the United States. When I was interviewed in the U.S., people asked me, I said the same thing. I said now that China has become strong, everyone is making an issue of China. If our own countrymen don’t support our country, who will support our country? We know our country has many problems. We [can] talk about it when the door is closed. To outsiders, [we should say] “our country is the best.”
Host: So he can’t get enough of his more than 20 ambassador titles. I think the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should ask him to be the ambassador to the United States.
Chan: Seriously, I am always like, when the door is closed, “Our country is like this and this. Who and who is not good.” But outside, “Our country is the best, like so and so, is the best.” You cannot say our country has problems [when you are outside], like “Yes, our country is bad.”
This interview is probably not so surprising to Chinese viewers. Chan has been stirring controversy for a few years now for criticizing Taiwan and Hong Kong as models of what can go wrong when you have “too much freedom.” He once said, in defending China’s censorship of his films, “Chinese people need to be controlled, otherwise they will do whatever they want.” So, in some ways, it was probably only a matter of time until he set his sights on the United States. Given that he called Taiwanese democracy “the biggest joke in the world,” it’s surprising his criticism of the U.S., which is commonly viewed as either Taipei’s sponsor or its puppet-master, wasn’t harsher.
America has made Jackie Chan a very rich man. If that is how he wants to be, fine. He will fit in very well in America hating Hollywood.
For those of us who are real Americans, we have a solution to this. We will not go see another Jackie Chan movie nor will we buy any product he endorses.
Let’s see how much he loves America when we quit sending him money.

The Decline and Fall of the United States Navy
All five branches of the American military have proud and distinguished histories, but perhaps none more so than the United States Navy.
Yet as Barack Obama works on destroying the United States as a superpower, the first casualty has become the United States Navy.
What has happened to the fleet that one time controlled the oceans?
Today the United States has one single aircraft carrier in the Middle East. In the first gulf war the United States had six aircraft carriers in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf.
Today, the Navy could not get more than three carriers together and it would be hard pressed to do that.
Why?
The Party of Treason has effectively destroyed the Navy and one of Barack Obama’s fundamental transformations of America will make it impossible for this nation to be a superpower in the future.
In the 1980’s the Navy said in order to do its job it needed 15 carrier battle groups. Thanks to the Reagan naval build up, the Navy was able to field six carriers during the first gulf war and keep other commitments.
Then Bill Clinton came along and shrank the military budget and along with it the number of ships in the Navy. Today the Navy has fewer ships than it has had in the fleet since before World War One.
Today the Navy has nine aircraft carriers available. By law the Navy is supposed to have eleven but Congress granted a waiver to allow the Navy to retire the USS Enterprise in December and the USS Abraham Lincoln just started a massive four-year overhaul.
The Navy has only nine carriers. While that sounds like a lot, the simple fact is only a third of those ships can be at sea at any one time. Ships have to return to port, have to be repaired, train new sailors and then go out on deployment again.
Now, the Navy, which has been sending out carriers for six-month deployments, is now sending them out for eight-month deployments. For sailors with families, this is a huge problem. They must be apart from their families for two thirds of a year every time their ship goes on deployment. That takes a huge toll on the sailors and their families.
Aircraft carriers perform an invaluable function. They project power. America does not need to worry about complaints from another nation or obtaining permission to cross airspace when needed for an operation. Aircraft carrier battle groups project power in a way no other force can.
Unfortunately, Barack Obama has fundamentally transformed America and we will soon see the end of the ability of the Navy to project that power.
Two generations ago, European Nations made a choice. They could pay for their welfare states or they could have a military. They had the United States to defend them so they opted for the welfare state. Every time the budget got tight or liberal politicians wanted to bribe the voters with more benefits, they cut their military budgets.
Barack Obama has now put America on the track of cutting the military to pay our debt and pay for the welfare state.
Why is this important?
Just look at Britain.
After World War Two, the British Royal Navy was second only to America’s Navy. By the early 1980’s, the Royal Navy was a hollow shell of what it once was. When Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands were invaded, the British had to scrape together a fleet which was so ineffective it suffered very heavy losses. Despite that, it was able to project enough power to retake the Falklands.
Now, the second Falkland war is coming. Britain has no aircraft carriers or for that matter any aircraft that could fight in a naval environment. Sometime within the next year or two, Argentina will invade the Falklands again and this time Britain will not be able to send out a fleet to defend British territory.
This is the future of America and its Navy.
Obama and the Party of Treason will continue to cut the budget. As they do, the Navy will have no choice but to retire aircraft carriers.
Most people do not realize that America has territories in the Pacific. We rely on the seas for trade.
It is hard for us to imagine a time when America will not be able to project power to protect not another nation but to protect American territory in the Pacific.
As hard as it is to imagine, this is the future under Obama. Obama wants America to become a nuclear disarmed nation. He wants us to gut our military to the point where it would have a hard time defending our southern border against a rogue soccer team.
America was a great superpower. Thanks to Obama and the Party of Treason, we are now on the way to being a former superpower.
One of the truisms of history is that once a nation begins its decline, it never recovers.

The federal government defines a hate crime as a “criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.” Though statutes mandating harsher punishments for hatred-inspired acts raise the specter of thought crimes, emphasize group identity over the individual, and seemingly favor certain victims over others, the FBI’s tracking of such deeds shines important light on the state of the nation. Annual reports assembled from local law-enforcement data are accessible on the website of the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Especially useful is Table 1 of each compilation, which summarizes the number of incidents, offenses, victims, and known offenders for hate crimes committed against members of different groups.

Although I love Ron and Nancy Reagan I will not ever watch a movie with Traitor Jane Fonda in it. And I do hope the rest of America also avoid this movie like the traitorous venue that it is. Would States Secede to Protect Their Citizens?

Many, if not most, Americans are unaware that the nation is composed of separate republics with their own constitutions. They are, of course, the individual states.
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved respectively, or to the people.” – Tenth Amendment
By tying compliance with federal laws and regulation to receiving funds, the states have been coerced to accept programs that limit freedoms enumerated in the Constitution and the passage of Obamacare is but one example. Some twenty states have refused to set up the mandated insurance exchanges. Obamacare grants the government complete control over the provision of medical care that every American has formerly received from the free market health system that it destroyed. It gives the federal government control over our lives in terms of who lives or dies.
As noted on the website of the Tenth Amendment Center: "The Founding Fathers has good reason to pen the Tenth Amendment."

They deeply distrusted government power, and their goal was to prevent the growth of the type of government that the British has exercised over the colonies.”

Their worst fears are coming true as the nation heads into 2013. In just four years, the Obama administration, through its profligate borrowing and spending, has brought the nation to the brink of financial collapse and, as we have seen, the refusal of the President to negotiate anything than the current Band-Aid to avoid the “fiscal cliff” for another two months, has brought the nation to a point where the collapse of the U.S. dollar is not just imminent, but likely.
When that occurs the individual states may elect to secede in order to avoid having the federal government nationalize their National Guard units or take control of their state police to enforce whatever measures it might take to control the population. Individual state law enforcement authorities in cities and towns would need similar protection. Reportedly, massive amounts of funding have been directed to them to ensure their cooperation.
It would be a means to protect their citizens insofar as state constitutions grant the same rights as found in the Constitution’s Bill of Rights. It would not surprise me to see Texas lead the way. Others would follow.
You know things are bad when historians like Arthur Herman, writing on the January 3 Fox News, says that “Washington’s Republicans and Democrats alike have become the toll collectors on the road to serfdom.” Citing recent riots in Argentina, Herman said that “Argentina reveals who really suffers when those who create a nation’s wealth get mugged by those who spend it—as just happened this week in Washington.”
If the private sector manages to rally this year, it may buy some time before the midterm elections in 2014. A letter to the editor in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune summed up the problem neatly. “Let's look at what we have learned from this election: Twenty-one of 22 incumbent senators were re-elected, and 353 of 373 incumbent members of the House were re-elected. The American people have re-elected 94 percent of the incumbents who were running for re-election to an institution that has an approval rating of about 9 percent. This indicates, as an electorate, we are a nation of idiots. We're now stuck with the useless, dysfunctional government that we deserve.”
The U.S. Constitution was written in the wake of the failure of the Articles of Confederation, the first attempt to unite the states for the common good of the growing nation. It is the product of some of the finest minds, the most dedicated advocates of liberty, to gather in one place at one time. It is the oldest, living Constitution in the world. It was adopted on September 17, 1787 and ratified in June of 1788.
On December 17, 1791, the first ten amendments—the Bill of Rights—were ratified. It is a list of immunities from interference by the federal government and the fears of the Founders are now being borne out by a government that is too large, borrows and spends too much money, and has departments such as the Homeland Security that threaten the rights of free speech, travel, and other freedoms. Every U.S. citizen is now subject to government surveillance more typical of a totalitarian government than one that respects and protects their personal security and rights.
This is why the United States could find itself in a rebellion that will rival the causes of the Civil War, itself a state’s rights conflict in addition to the issue of slavery that had hung over the Constitution since its ratification; an effort to “kick the can down the road” the Founders agreed to in order to get it ratified.
It is not beyond the imagination that a deliberately created crisis would prompt individual states to withdraw from the Union to protect themselves and their citizens, otherwise known as “the people.”

America is perched at the edge of the abyss. The abyss could rip this nation apart. It could start a second civil war. Standing at the edge of the abyss, Barack Obama is bound and determined to push America over the edge.
What is the cause of the abyss?
The cause of the abyss is the Obama Regime’s dictatorial desire to take power and transform America from a Republic to a third world dictatorship. The latest part of this push is the Obama Regime’s desire to disarm America.
The problem Barack Obama has is he is not a real American. He does not understand real Americans. When you are raised outside of the United States by a mother and grandparents who were radical Marxists, this is no great shock.
The shock that is coming to the left and to the Obama Regime is that tens of millions of real Americans who own guns are not giving them up.
If Joe Biden is to be believed, Barack Obama is going to act by executive order by the end of the month to impose gun control on America. Joe Biden is hardly a reliable source, since he often has trouble remembering what state he is in or for that matter what century it is. However, Obama put Biden in charge of the “gun task force” so maybe he should not be dismissed so quickly.
The Republicans in Congress are not the best of allies. They are weak at best under John Boehner’s freshly laundered white flag of surrender. But even the Republicans will fight and stop all but the most minor infringements of the Second Amendment.
Barack Obama has clearly not read the Declaration of Independence. Our founding fathers wrote, “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
Unfortunately for America, Barack Obama not only wants to be a dictator. He thinks he is.
He is openly envious of dictators like Mohammad Morsi who is able to rule by decree.
If Barack Obama tries to impose gun control by executive order, this will be the spark that launches the second wave of the Tea Party and possibly a second American Revolution.
Here is a message to Barack Obama. We real Americans are not giving up our guns.
The left loves to ask the question, “Who needs a gun that will shoot ten bullets?”
My question is who the hell are you to tell us what we need? Freedom and liberty are not based on what some idiot in the government or some liberal nut job decides that we “need” something.
If Barack Obama issues an executive order to infringe on our Second Amendment rights, then a few million real Americans need to show up in Washington with our guns and exercise our Constitutional Right to petition our government for redress of our complaints and if that does not work, our founding fathers recognized the need to alter or abolish the form of government we live under.
One of Obama’s heroes, Mao Zedong, the famous Chinese mass murderer, once opined that power flows from the barrel of a gun. Guns guarantee freedom and liberty. The Jews if Europe learned what it was like to be a disarmed people during World War II. If more of them had been armed, more of them might have survived the Second World War.
We will not be the Jews of the 21st Century.
We own our guns because freedom and liberty are guaranteed through the barrel of a gun.
We will not surrender our freedom and our liberty.
And we will not surrender our guns.

It is time to go after liberal corporations
It is time for us to start going after liberal corporations. Corporations that do not support real Americans should not get our business.

Bank of America has reportedly frozen the account of gun manufacturer American Spirit Arms, according to its owner, Joe Sirochman.
In a Facebook post dated December 29, Sirochman wrote the following:
“My name is Joe Sirochman owner of American Spirit Arms...our Web site orders have jumped 500 percent causing our Web site e-commerce processing larger deposits to Bank of America. So they decided to hold the deposits for further review.
“After countless hours on the phone with Bank of America, I finally got a manager in the right department that told me the reason that the deposits were on hold for further review -- her exact words were -- ‘We believe you should not be selling guns and parts on the Internet.’”(emphasis added)
Sirochman also wrote that he told the bank manager that “they have no right to make up their own new rules and regs” and that “[American Spirit is a] firearms manufacturer with all the proper licensing.”
He also noted that he has been doing business with Bank of America for over 10 years, but will now be looking for a new bank.
According to Unlawful News, this isn't the first time Bank of America has targeted a customer involved in the firearms industry.
McMillan Group International was reportedly told that its business was no longer welcome after the company started manufacturing firearms – even after 12 years of doing business with the bank.
Every real American should pull their business from Bank of America. I used to do business with BoA but I pulled my business several years ago when BoA made it obvious it preferred illegal aliens as customers over Americans.
If a Bank will not support the 2nd Amendment, then it does not deserve our support. There are many small banks in your city or county that support freedom and liberty. If you have an account with Bank of America, see if there is a bank that has been supportive of the Tea Party and take your money there.
Lest anyone doubt it, this is a war. We cannot be supporting the enemy while they work against us.
Republican Party
Just a short thought but it has been a while in the making. Since the Republican Party is intent on giving in to the liberals and thus becoming more like them – there is no longer any reason for me to vote Republican and even be one and I will in the near future change my party affiliation to Independent or if it is a choice to Libertarian.
I am totally disgusted with the two major parties and feel the need to belong to a party who stands up for the traditional American way of life (Conservatism if you will); a party who isn’t afraid to stand with Christianity, a party who tells the truth even if it is not politically correct.

The left’s dangerous fascination
The left has a dangerous fascination with something. This fascination is a damning indictment of the left and of liberalism. It is the reason why we must not only reject liberalism but must fight it with everything we have.
What is this fascination the left has that is so dangerous?
The left loves dictators and dictatorships.
In recent days, leading members of the Party of Treason from Harry Reid to Nancy Pelosi have been demanding that Barack Obama simply ignore Congress and unilaterally raise the debt ceiling.
Barack Obama has told the House Republicans he will not debate with them on the debt ceiling. “To hell with you evil Republicans! I am a dictator and I will do what I damn well please!” That is Obama’s attitude.
And his attitude is meeting with thundering applause from the left.
Obama has wistfully told people that he wished he had the powers of a dictator. He has looked at people like Egypt’s Muslim brotherhood dictator Mohammad Morsi and wished he could act by decree like Morsi did.
The American left is becoming even more radical than it has been in the past. Only a few days ago, the Atlantic Magazine online published a piece calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment. And a few days earlier, a left wing nut job professor from Georgetown law school called for simply abolishing the Constitution.
That is what the left would ultimately like. They want to see our Constitution thrown on the garbage heap of history.
It is not just the Constitution that they hate. They hate the idea of liberty and freedom. They hate the idea that there should be any restrictions on the power of government.
The left believes that government should have the ultimate decisions for the “greater good.” They do not believe in the rights of freedom or conscience. They believe the government has the right to tell you what to do, what to believe and ultimately whether you even live or die.
The great difference between the liberty state that our founding fathers created and the liberal states we have seen throughout modern history is that role the person plays in society. In the liberty state, the person owns the state. The person is a citizen not a subject. The person is given rights by God that the state cannot take away.
In the states the left loves so much and wants us to emulate, the person is literally the property of the state. The state sets the parameters of all aspects of a person’s life.
One of the best examples of why we must fight liberalism is seen in Britain right now. Britain has the kind of socialist healthcare system that Barack Obama and the Party of Treason want America to have. They have a program called “Pathways.” It is a euthanasia program. Annually, 60,000 people are put on this program. Often their families are not even told. The people are denied food and water and they die. Often it is an agonizing death.
How is this possible?
It is simple. They have socialist healthcare. With socialist healthcare, medical care is a gift from the state. The state gives and the state takes away. Because of this, the person is not a citizen but a subject. Therefore the government can decide whether the person is worthy of receiving life-saving care or if they are just like an old or broken piece of equipment that should just simply be discarded.
This is the great danger of liberalism today. Liberals today do not even make a pretense of supporting liberty and freedom. They do not want liberty or freedom. They want dictatorship.
They want the kind of states we have seen before. They want revolutionary France. They want the Soviet Union. They want Nazi Germany. They want Communist China. They want Communist Cuba. The list goes on and on.
Unfortunately, as we have seen every time in the past, when the left gets what it wants, there are predictable results.
Those results are poverty, tyranny and far too often, mass murder.

Obama’s Tax Evaders of the year
President Obama will kick off the new year the same way that he kicked off the old year: by demanding that the wealthy pay their "fair share" in taxes. But while millions of small-business owners, struggling entrepreneurs, inventors and investors brace for a double whammy of fiscal cliff tax hikes and new Obamacare taxes, the class-warrior in chief's richest pals are getting a pass.
It's a Golden Pass for liberal millionaires and billionaires who support higher Obama taxes for everyone but themselves. Meet the Democratic tax evaders of the year.
-- Google. The left-wing Internet giant provided Silicon Valley's biggest campaign finance boost to Obama, with individual employee donations supporting the tax-hiking candidate by a ratio of more than 31-to-1. Google rank-and-file workers pitched in some $800,000 to Obama. Google's CEO Eric Schmidt, Google cofounder Sergey Brin, Chief Legal Officer and Senior Vice President David Drummond, and Google Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist Vint Cerf are all vocal Obama supporters and top donors.
In December, Google's Netherlands subsidiary disclosed in a tax filing that it had shifted nearly $10 billion in revenues to a Bermuda shell company. That's "almost double the total from three years before," according to Bloomberg News. In response to criticism, Google defended the scheme as a legal response to government incentives. "It's called capitalism," Schmidt snarked defiantly.
Wonder what all of Obama's operatives and media lapdogs who bashed evil, selfish Republican offshore tax havens have to say about that? Cue crickets chirping.
-- The Washington Post. Speaking of media lapdogs, this newspaper sanctimoniously supported Obama for president and singled out his support for "revenue (tax) increases." Its endorsement editorial castigated Mitt Romney for embracing an America "in which an ever-greater share of the nation's wealth resides with the nation's wealthy, at a time when inequality already is growing."
The privileged wealthy barons at The Washington Post, however, increased that inequality at the end of the year when they joined a growing number of companies who are giving 2013 dividends in 2012 to protect investors from paying higher Obama taxes on dividend income. It's "proof positive," my friend and guest-blogger Doug Powers noted, "that no matter what happens in the negotiations, the country is definitely going off the irony cliff."
Bonus irony: The $70 million year-end dividend payment will be a windfall for other "higher taxes for thee, but not for me" Obama supporters, including donor Warren Buffett's firm Berkshire Hathaway. According to The Associated Press, "Berkshire is its largest shareholder, with an estimated 1.7 million shares, which means it could get a roughly $17 million dividend payment."
-- Costco. The mega-retailer's co-founder, Jim Sinegal, is a lifelong Democrat and top Obama fundraiser. He crusaded aggressively for Obamacare and sent out a campaign dispatch defending his candidate from criticism over his "you didn't build that remarks." But while Sinegal purported to speak for beleaguered small-business owners, his company was availing itself of rarified tax avoidance strategies. Like The Washington Post, the Costco board of directors voted to pay special $7 per share year-end dividends to avoid higher taxes. In addition, Costco will borrow $3.5 billion to finance the payout, according to The Wall Street Journal. Higher taxes, more debt. They built that.
-- Facebook. The social networking giant's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, told Obama in 2011 at a town hall forum that he was "cool" with paying higher taxes. But neither Zuckerberg nor his many Facebook execs are actually down with following through. Co-founder Eduardo Saverin renounced his American citizenship in a blindingly obvious bid to evade nearly $70 million in taxes. In addition, Zuckerberg and a half-dozen Facebook insiders are all skirting hefty estate and gift taxes on their family Facebook shares held in annuity trusts. According to Bloomberg News, the legal maneuver is called a "grantor-retained annuity trust, or GRAT," and the total Facebook tax avoidance sum adds up to at least $200 million. A "cool" $200 million, that is.
-- George Lucas. The billionaire Star Wars director called Obama a "hero" and parroted his candidate's capitalism-bashing rhetoric in a January 2012 interview with PBS dinosaur Charlie Rose. "I do not believe that the rich should be able to buy the government," Lucas lectured. He does, however, believe in shirking higher taxes the one-percenter way. In October, Lucas sold his film company to Disney for a whopping $4 billion in cash and stock to evade anticipated capital gains tax increases and Obamacare Medicare surtaxes on investment income.
-- Andre "Dr. Dre" Young. Forbes magazine named this California gangsta rapper-turned-music industry mogul the highest-paid musician in the world in 2012. He raked in an estimated $100 million, mostly from sales of his Beats headphone company, along with concert revenue. Dre's music electronics company was co-founded with Jimmy Iovine, who also founded Dre's parent record label, Interscope Records. Interscope was funded by "progressive" billionaire Ted Field, heir to the Marshall Field retail empire and one of the nation's biggest Democratic Party donors.
Dre boosted the careers of prominent Obama hip-hop cheerleaders Eminem and 50 Cent. But overseas, he's rolling like a Romney supporter. The rap mogul is now using a County Cork, Ireland, tax haven to protect his global headphones empire subsidiaries and avoid high U.S. corporate tax rates. The Irish Examiner newspaper explained that the elaborate structuring "allows for money to be (channeled) between the separate companies in the form of royalty payments or (license) fees to artificially but legitimately reduce profits as a means of reducing tax liabilities."
To paraphrase Dre and his Obama-endorsing rap partner Snoop Dogg: Ain't nuthin' but an E thang. Elitism. Exemptions. Evasion.
Yo-Yo’s are dangerous–we must ban them!
23-year-old yo-yo champion shot and killed Christmas night
PHOENIX -- Phoenix Police officers are investigating the death of 23-year-old Nathan Dewitt.
Dewitt's friends from back home in Washington are stunned by the yo-yo champion's tragic death.
A YouTube video posted in June shows Dewitt doing skilled tricks for several minutes in Long Beach.
High school friend David Millenaar spoke to 3TV over the phone.
"He did everything to go out of his way to make you smile and laugh, bring you up, cheer you up. He would have done anything for his friends," said Millenaar.
On Christmas night, Dewitt’s SUV crashed into a tree near 28th street and Union Hills in Phoenix.
The blue 1997 Ford Explorer rolled and witnesses told Phoenix Police officers Dewitt crawled out of the car and said he'd been shot.
"We had a witness in the area who observed this particular collision and went to assist this driver when the driver indicated he had just been shot," said said Steve Martos with the Phoenix Police Department.
"At this point we really don't know much what occurred prior to this collision or where or how this person was shot, possibly at a party. We just don't know," added Martos.
Dewitt died at a local hospital.
Police aren't saying where he was shot.
Investigators said Dewitt lived near the scene of the accident.
3TV stopped by Dewitt's home on Thursday, but no one answered the door.
Friends are leaving goodbye notes on Dewitt’s Facebook page.
One message said, "Nathan buddy...you will always be remembered and may your memory live on inside each and every family member and friend."
The shooter hasn’t been caught.
