TV worth watching

TV worth watching

There is very little on TV that is worth watching.  In 1961, FCC Chairman Newton Minnow called television programming a “vast wasteland.”  Not much has changed.   From the reality TV freak shows to the mindless sitcoms, ninety five percent of TV can be ignored and it is no great loss.

However, there are a couple of things on TV that are worth watching, including one that is hidden on of all things a minor channel that is owned by NBC.

What is it?

It is a show called Bomb Patrol Afghanistan.

I discovered this show yesterday.   After watching my hometown Titans pull one out from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I flipped over to the other game, which was the Patriots against the Eagles.  That game quickly turned into a blow up and during the commercial breaks I started flipping around and came across Bomb Patrol Afghanistan.

After that, the football game was history.

Bomb Patrol Afghanistan is a reality TV show that centers on Navy EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) unit 342, which is in Afghanistan.  They are divided into two three-man teams and their mission is to go out into Afghanistan and disarm the various types of bombs the Taliban use against American forces.

The show follows the sailors as they are on their deployment to Afghanistan.  There are the funny moments, as the men play practical jokes on each other or blow off some steam by having robot races.   There are tense moments, such as when one of the teams discovers they have stopped their vehicle right on top of a large bomb and someone needs to figure out what to do about it before the bomb kills them.  There are moments that remind us the men are not just sailors but men with lives and homes.   At one moment, a grizzled Petty Officer talks about his blanket.  His father gave it to him and he has taken it on all four of his deployments.

Then there are the moments where the reality of war is brought home.  The sailors attend a memorial service for a fallen soldier as his body is sent on the final journey home.

Beneath all of that is the message through out the show.  We are the good guys and the Taliban are the bad guys.

The fact that we have a TV show that shows total support for our guys over in Afghanistan is refreshing.  The fact that it is being shown on a network that is owned by NBC is almost shocking.

During World War 2, the entertainment industry supported the war effort.   However, since then Hollywood has given us a pretty steady stream of anti-American propaganda.   It is amazing, even ten years after 9/11 some in Hollywood still cheer for our enemies.

During World War 2, Frank Capra made an amazing series of films called, “Why We Fight.”  It explained to our soldiers and our nation why we were at war.    Bomb Patrol Afghanistan is no “Why We Fight,” but it is a powerful story of Americans serving their country.

I have always been amazed the George W. Bush did not try to get some of the few conservatives in Hollywood to make a version of “Why We Fight” after 9/11.  Perhaps if he had, we might have countered much of the liberal media and might have been able to win in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That opportunity is gone now.  The only film Barack Obama would make would be called, “Why we surrender.”

If you have a chance to catch Bomb Patrol Afghanistan, it is very much worth watching.

And for the men of Navy EOD Unit 342, well done.

    Occupy Wall Street–Hit’s New Low

The Occupy mob is pretty much a bunch of loser, but today they took they managed to hit a new low.  The latest target of the Occupy mob is children.

    From CBS:

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — They were caught in the middle of madness.

Some grade school students were forced to walk a gauntlet of screaming “Occupy Wall Street” protesters just to get to school on Thursday.

It was a wild day in lower Manhattan for most everyone involved, including elementary school children who had to brave the mayhem just to get to class on the other side of Wall Street.

In the middle of thousands of protestors yelling and chanting — some kicking and screaming – CBS 2’s Emily Smith found little school kids trying to get to class. Nervous parents led them through the barriers on Wall Street. The NYPD helped funnel the children, anything to ease their fears while some protestors chanted “follow those kids!”

“These guys are terrorists, yelling at little kids,” one father said. “For them it’s horrible. They’re afraid of all the crowds. We’re not even able to get through. They’re just, he’s … very afraid now,” a mother added.

Of course, the mob has no respect for anyone else’s rights and generally wants to make life as miserable for everyone who, well, everyone who has a job.

    From Yahoo:

Hundreds of anti-Wall Street demonstrators blocked a downtown Los Angeles street on Thursday, snarling traffic on surrounding freeways before police moved in to make arrests and break up the rally.

Protesters first marched through the Los Angeles financial district, chanting "Occupy the Freeways, Occupy the U.S.A.", and then a small group stood in a circle and held hands on a major downtown street, blocking it, before police advanced.

At least 26 protesters were arrested in the city in separate marches and rallies, and arrests appeared to be underway at a Bank of America branch in downtown Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles march came as cities across the country have taken police action in recent days to dismantle protest camps set up as part of the Occupy movement against economic inequality and excesses of the financial system.

The march also coincided with a planned day of action that saw hundreds of people take to the streets of several U.S. cities, including New York where at least 177 people were arrested, in rallies seen as a test of momentum of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Across America, hundreds of people were arrested today in violent protests.  That is hundreds more than have been arrested at Tea Party rallies.   In New York, at least one police officer was slashed and another suffered an eye injury.

While I am not a Karl Rove fan, occasionally you have to give him a little credit and he nailed it today.  A speech he made today was disrupted by the Occupy mob.  Instead of sitting there and taking it, he fired back.

Rove told the disrupters, “If you don’t have the courage to stand here and then ask a question, you’re just showing your moral cowardice.   Do not be so arrogant and presumptive to think that you’re the only person who has a First Amendment right that needs to be heard. Who gave you the right to occupy America? Nobody.”

For once, good for Karl Rove.

    Herman Cain’s Accusers

Cain's accuser has a history of financial, legal problems
    Posted by Staff

    The Chicago Tribune reports:
Records show she twice has filed for personal bankruptcy, first in 1991 and then again in 2001. In the latter case, she claimed $5,700 in assets and more than $36,000 in liabilities. Among the creditors seeking payment was a management firm demanding back rent of $4,500, four credit card companies and a lawyer asking for his legal fees.
After the case was discharged, she accused a former boyfriend of harassing her for repayment of a loan, court records in the bankruptcy case show. Bialek borrowed $4,500 from William Concha, though Concha now believes she had no intention of paying him back, according to his brother, Mario.

    Real Clear Politics reports:
Martha MacCallum, FOX News: "One of the things is that you lived at a 505 North Lake Shore Drive apartment, right? This is the same building, it happens to be the same building David Axelrod lives in. Do you know David Axelrod? Ever have any interaction with him at all?
Sharon Bialek, Cain accuser: "I saw him in the gym. I mean -- everybody nods to each other. It is friendly building but I never had any interaction with him."

    Occupy Wall Street

NEW YORK -- An "Occupy Wall Street" protester threw a violent fit in a McDonald’s after employees refused to give him free food.

Fisika Bezabeh, 27, ripped a credit-card reader from a counter and threw it at workers at about 2:30am local time Friday at the downtown Manhattan restaurant, which has become a bathroom spot for protesters.

    Jack Kemp

A Cain's accuser uses the Salem Witch Trial Standard

    Jack E. Kemp
CNN released a statement from one Herman Cain's accusers that defies normal analysis because there are no names and no details. One could call it Etherial Charges.
Let me attempt to parse the first section of this article,
    http://www.news4jax.com/election-2012/Lawyer-Cain-accuser-sees-no-v...; paragraph by paragraph.
    QUOTE
One of the women who accused Republican presidential contender Herman Cain of sexual harassment released a statement through her lawyer Friday saying that she "stands by" her complaint, which was made "in good faith about a series of inappropriate behaviors and unwanted advances."
    END
"One of the women" who wishes to remain anonymous yet refuses to face her accuser in a public forum. She "stands by her complaint?" Then what is her complaint? Did Herman Cain tell inapropriate jokes? Did he touch her? What did he do that was "inappropriate?" Enquiring minds want to know.
    QUOTE
There was "more than one incident" of harassment involving Cain and his client over the span of a couple of months in 1999, attorney Joel Bennett said.
    END
This essentially repeats what the previous paragraph said in the same vague language while adding no new facts.
    QUOTE
Bennett said his client, married for 26 years, will not reveal her identity because "she and her husband see no value in revisiting this matter now nor in discussing the matter any further publicly or privately."
    END
Let me translate this into English: She doesn't want to have to be cross examined by an attorney, particularly for inconsistencies in her story. She also doesn't want her past behavior elsewhere brought up in the press. Period. No value in discussing this now? Then why is this woman having an attorney discuss this in the media? It must have some value for her, perhaps of a political nature. She is - either de facto or de jure - putting a cloud over Mr. Cain's reputation and his run for the Presidential nomination.
    QUOTE
"In fact," he added, "it would be extremely painful for her to do so."
    END
I'm sure Mr. Cain and his wife find the anonymous accusations with no details somewhat painful, as does his campaign, despite the increase in funds raised in response to them. The only pain this woman is interested in is Mr. Cain's - and in increasing it by her nebulous actions. Of course, if this is a "he-said, she-said" story with no proof,  she might get sued - and lose. And THAT would be pain she would be concerned about.
    SECTION OMITTED
    QUOTE
Sweeney said the association is prepared to fully release Bennett's client from her confidentiality agreement in the event she wants to disclose additional details.
    END
This means that the woman making these vague charges and has the power to end the ambiguity by releasing the details of what she said years ago to the NRA.
Being made to feel pain and discomfort could cover a lot of things if one doesn't have to be specific about one's charges. It could be anything from having to walk barefoot on hot sand on a municipal beach to having to stand while on public transportation during rush hour. I'm not trying to dismiss the accuser of Herman Cain out of hand. But for her charges to be taken seriously by the public, she has to supply details, documentation and/or witnesses.
Subjective emotional upset, even if quite true, is a starting point for an accusation, but not an end point (i.e., not a civil or criminal act) in and of itself.
In the Salem witch trials, young women said they were agitated by the presence of alleged witches who put a spell on them. And, ironically one of the male defendants who pleaded "not guilty" had a heavy load of stones pressed upon his body to force a confession.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_witch_trials#Formal_prosecution:...
The press now is forcing itself down on Herman Cain based on the same low level proof earlier defendants had in
    late 1600s New England.
Herman Cain's campaign is still very much alive because millions of Americans believe this collection of media charges against him is as empty as the Heraldo Rivera-hyped contents of Al Capone's safe. Please prove me wrong and open the safe and show me some proof, Mainstream Media. I'm waiting.

    Liberals and Racism

Cain Backing From Right Spoils Story Line Of Left

By ANN COULTER Posted 11/03/2011 05:25 PM ET

By spending the last three decades leveling accusations of "racism" every 10 seconds, liberals have made it virtually impossible for Americans to recognize real racism — for example, the racism constantly spewed at black conservatives.

In the last year alone, a short list of the things liberals have labeled "racist" include:

    • Being a Republican.

    • Joining the Tea Party.

    • The word "the" (Donald Trump's statement that he has a "great relationship with the blacks").

    • References to Barack Obama's playing basketball (Trump again).

    • Using Obama's middle name.

    • Scott Brown's pickup truck.

    • Opposing ObamaCare.

    • Opposing Obama's stimulus bill.

    • Opposing Obama's jobs bill.

The surge in conservative support for Herman Cain confuses the Democrats' story line, which is that Republicans hate Obama because he's black.

Cain is twice as black as Obama. (Possible Obama campaign slogan: "Too Black!")

This is why the liberal website Politico ran with a story on Cain that had everything — a powerful black man, a Republican presidential candidate, the hint of sexuality — except facts.

All we learned was: About a decade ago, as many as two anonymous women accused Cain of making unspecified "inappropriate" remarks and one "inappropriate" gesture in the workplace. (We had more than that on John Edwards' mistress a year into the media's refusal to report that story.)

If the details helped liberals, we'd have the details.

To have been accused of sexual harassment in the 1990s is like having been accused of molesting children at preschools in the 1980s or accused of being a witch in Massachusetts in the 1690s.

In the 1990s, one plaintiff won a $50 million jury verdict against Wal-Mart on the grounds that a "hostile environment" was created by her supervisor's yelling at both male and female employees.

In another case, a plaintiff won a $250,000 award for sexual harassment based on her complaint that a male colleague had reached for a pastry saying, "Nothing I like more in the morning than sticky buns," while "wriggl(ing)" his eyebrows.

It got so crazy that a 6-year-old boy was suspended from class for a day for kissing a classmate on the cheek, and a Goya painting had to be removed from a Penn State classroom because a professor complained that it constituted sexual harassment.

With no standard other than the subjective offense taken by the accuser, absolutely anyone could be called a witch, i.e., a sexual harasser. So it's striking that the only two conservative public figures accused of being witches both happened to be conservative blacks: Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain.

Liberals go straight to ugly racist stereotypes when attacking conservative blacks, calling them oversexualized, stupid and/or incompetent.

The late, lamented, white liberal reporter Mary McGrory called Justice Antonin Scalia "a brilliant and compelling extremist" — while dismissing Thomas as "Scalia's puppet."

More recently, Democratic Sen. Harry Reid called Scalia "one smart guy." In the next breath, he proclaimed Thomas "an embarrassment to the Supreme Court," adding, "I think that his opinions are poorly written."

When Bush made Condoleezza Rice the first black female secretary of state, terror swept through the Democratic Party. What if people began to notice and ask questions: "Who's that black woman always standing with George Bush?" Never mind! He's probably arresting her.

In addition to an explosion of racist cartoons portraying Rice as Aunt Jemima, Butterfly McQueen from "Gone With the Wind," a fat-lipped Bush parrot and other racist cliches, allegedly respectable liberals promptly called her stupid and incompetent.

Joseph Cirincione, then with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said Rice "doesn't bring much experience or knowledge of the world to this position." (Unlike Hillary Clinton, whose experience for the job consisted of being married to an impeached, disbarred former president.)

Democratic consultant Bob Beckel — who ran Walter Mondale's 1984 campaign so competently that Mondale lost 49 states — said of Rice, "I don't think she's up to the job."

When Michael Steele ran for senator in Maryland in 2006, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee dug up a copy of his credit report — something done to no other Republican candidate. He was depicted in black face with huge red lips by liberal blogger Steve Gilliard. Oreo cookies were rolled down the aisle at Steele during a gubernatorial debate in 2002.

Trafficking in racist imagery is consequence-free for liberals because they have ruined charges of "racism" with their own overuse of the term. By now, any accusation of racism has the feel of a Big Foot sighting.

It's a neat trick, rather as if the Nazis had called everything "genocide" right before launching the Holocaust, and then admonished resisters not to "play the genocide card."

Liberals step on black conservatives early and often because they can't have black children thinking, "Hmmm, the Republicans have some good ideas; maybe I'm a Republican."

    The basic setup is:

Step 1: Spend 30 years telling blacks that Republicans are racist and viciously attacking all black Republicans.

Step 2: Laugh maliciously at Republicans for not having more blacks in their party.

It is beyond insane that Herman Cain would have considered running for president if he had the tiniest skeleton in his closet. To be an out-of-the-closet black Republican, you had better be a combination rocket scientist/Baptist preacher. Which, as it happens, Cain is.

Meanwhile, MSNBC is cutting into its prime-time programming to announce updates in the fact-free hit on Cain. That's not because anyone there thinks he'll be the nominee. Everyone knows it's going to be Mitt Romney.

But liberals are determined to make sure that, six months from now, everyone has forgotten Herman Cain so they can go back to claiming Republicans oppose Obama because they hate blacks.

    Herman Cain

What you may not know about Herman Cain who is running for president....

He’s not a career politician (in fact he has never held political office). He’s known as a pizza guy, but there’s a lot more to him. He’s also a computer guy, a banker guy, and a rocket scientist guy.

    Here’s his bio:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
    • Master’s degree in Computer Science.
    • Mathematician for the Navy, where he worked on missile ballistics (making him a rocket scientist).
    • Computer systems analyst for Coca-Cola.
    • VP of Corporate Data Systems and Services for Pillsbury (this is the top of the ladder in the computer world, being in charge of information systems for a major corporation).

All achieved before reaching the age of 35. Since he reached the top of the information systems world, he changed careers!

    • Business Manager. Took charge of Pillsbury’s 400 Burger King restaurants in the Philadelphia area, which were the company’s poorest performers in the country. Spent the first nine months learning the business from the ground up, cooking hamburger and yes, cleaning toilets. After three years he had turned them into the company’s best performers.
    • Godfather’s Pizza CEO. Was asked by Pillsbury to take charge of their Godfather’s Pizza chain (which was on the verge of bankruptcy). He made it profitable in 14 months.
    • In 1988 he led a buyout of the Godfather’s Pizza chain from Pillsbury. He was now the owner of a restaurant chain. Again he reached the top of the ladder of another industry.
    • He was also chairman of the National Restaurant Association during this time. This is a group that interacts with government on behalf of the restaurant industry, and it gave him political experience from the non-politician side.

Having reached the top of a second industry, he changed careers again!

    • Adviser to the Federal Reserve System. Herman Cain went to work for the Federal Reserve Banking System advising them on how monetary policy changes would affect American businesses.
    • Chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank. He worked his way up to the chairmanship of a regional Federal Reserve bank. This is only one step below the chairmanship of the entire Federal Reserve System (the top banking position in the country). This position allowed him to see how monetary policy is made from the inside, and understand the political forces that impact the monetary system.

After reaching the top of the banking industry, he changed careers for a fourth time!

    • Writer and public speaker. He then started to write and speak on leadership. His books include Speak as a Leader, CEO of Self, Leadership is Common Sense, and They Think You’re Stupid.
    • Radio Host. Around 2007—after a remarkable 40 year career—he started hosting a radio show on WSB in Atlanta (the largest talk radio station in the country).

He did all this starting from rock bottom (his father was a chauffeur and his mother was a maid). When you add up his accomplishments in his life—including reaching the top of three unrelated industries: information systems, business management, and banking—

STACK THAT UP AGAINST THE 'COMMUNITY ORGANIZER'....

Herman Cain may have the most impressive resume of anyone that has run for the presidency in the last half century.

    Obama against the United States

Holder sues SC over immigration reform

The Obama administration has boosted its efforts to bar state-level enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws by suing South Carolina over its new immigration reform law.
The Monday announcement by the Department of Justice follows the news that the Department of Homeland Security has quietly canceled long-standing checks of transportation hubs for illegal immigrants.

Obama Admin targets Catholic grants due to Church's moral stance
    Posted by Staff

A contentious battle between Catholic groups and the Obama administration has flared in recent days, fueled by the new health-care law and ongoing divisions over access to abortion and birth control.
The latest dispute centers on a decision by the Department of Health and Human Services in late September to end funding to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to help victims of human trafficking, or modern-day slavery. The church group had overseen nationwide services to victims since 2006 but was denied a new grant in favor of three other groups.

    Liberal Double Standards

As Ann Coulter says, funny, isn't it, how liberals want everything they dis-approve of banned (smoking, guns, practicing Christianity, ROTC, the Pledge of Allegiance) and whatever they approve of (abortion-on- demand, gay marriage, pornography, condom distribution in public schools, screenings of An Inconvenient Truth) made mandatory.
