A Few Disjointed Thoughts

Since I posted in early February my wife and I have been to Tampa FL to visit my family; particularly my Dad who is 91 years old and in a nursing home. We stayed with my sister and her husband while there. I really wish we lived a lot closer to them than we do; we have so much fun with them when there.

I just got out a new issue of a newsletter I do for my church: United Church of Cohoes (Presbyterian). I like doing it but getting people to give me information is like pulling hens teeth.

I turn 61 years old this year and am thinking of retiring when I reach 62 - so the countdown will start officially in a couple months. I have mixed emotions about that.

I have said that if McCain got the republican nomination that I would vote for a 3rd party candidate. But I have reconsidered that as I would be helping Hillary or O'Bama to win the election so I have to suck it up and vote for McCain. I had thought for a while of looking at O'Bama but there are things surfacing that make me very afraid of him getting to be President; including his wife who isn't glad to be an American even though she has enjoyed more of it's benefits than most of us ever will. Anyway I am going to vote for McCain.

Super Bowl

This Sunday is the Super Bowl and that is all that anyone is talking about right now. I watch it every year and enjoy it. But this year I am not excited about either of the teams that are playing. I will root for New York simply because I can't stand the Patriots. My team the Bucaneers didn't make the cut then I pulled for Indianapolis and then Green Bay . . . oh well.

I don't think we are having anyone over this year as my son is having people over to his house. And my wife and I can't go because we take care of her mother here at our house and she can't be left alone. Thats ok though I'll still watch the game and eat too much.

One good thing about watching the super bowl is the funny commercials that they always come up with.

Politics

This upcoming election is interesting to say the least but depending on who the Democrats choose it could make my decision making easier. The bottom line is, if Hillary gets the nomination then I will vote for whoever runs against her. If Obama gets it then I will have to drop back and do a comparison of the candidates for the two parties.

I am not inclined to vote for McCain as he is just a Liberal even though he is in the Republican party. He really doesn't have any of the values I like. It looks like Romney is the best of the lot for me but it isn't looking good right now.

Actually I am not really crazy about the candidats of either party but we have to take the lessor of the two evils according to our own values and beliefs.

Football and MIscellaneous

Well the football season is over, the playoffs are over and it will be New England verses the New York Giants in the super bowl. I don't really care for either team but I really dislike the Patriots so I will root for the Giants. My brother in law loves the Patriots so I have to keep my big mouth shut when he is around - sometimes that is not easy for me.

A few weeks ago I was ordained and installed as a Deacon in my church - The United Presbyterian Church in Cohoes. I have taken on the responsibility of putting out our church newsletter (the Sonlight). I put one out and have one ready to go but it has a lot of filler as people while they like to do the work don't want to take the time to put anything in writing for the newsletter and bulletins etc. Not being one who likes to pester people I will just do what I can without annoying anyone.

Football

Well I am very happy right now. My Tampa Bucaneers while not having a great season so far are in the lead in their division. If only they could protect the quarterback better they might actually be a contender but anyway I'll take what I can get. As long as we win more games than we lose I consider it a good season.

My sons on the other hand are Bears fans and that team has been very disappointing so are. I would think they would realize by now that their quarterback is not the problem; but they keep changing him out just the same. Right now it seems to me that their defence is what is letting them down.

United Church of Cohoes

Hello every one. Since my last post I have gotten out my first issue of my churches newsletter "The Sonlight" and have now started gather ing information for the next one which I hopefully will get out before Christmas if I can get the various committees to submit some reports etc to me.

As out Congreational meeting last week I was elected as a Deacon. I am still not too sure what a Deacon does but I guess I will learn that as I go. I just hope I am not taking on too much too quickly as my wife does not share my Christian beliefs and the need for going to and working through my church. As soon as the subject of religion comes up her force field comes up to protect her. I still pray for her everyday and some day if God is willing she will find her faith.

Right now I am constantly searching the we b for free clip art to use in my news letters. Eventually I may need to bite the bullet and pay to join some sites to get the clip art I want (or need).

Well it is time to go to church now. I was considering missing it but this is communion sunday and that is one day I really like. I know I should not consider missing at all but some days I am just so tired and out of sorts that I can't get motivated.

On a personal note my niece in Tampa had a baby a couple days ago and boy does that make me feel old. Plus I got an email with pictures of one of my ohter nieces there with her baby all dressed up for Halloween and boy did that make me feel good . . . and old at the same time.

Well I will see you next time and I am going to try to post on a more regular basis so stay tuned to get bored.

Yours in Christ,
Dan

NY Laws

Our new Governor is trying to pass a law now to give "Illegal" aliens NY drivers licences. What part of illegal does he not understand. So people coming into our country illegaly do not have to abide by the laws like the rest of us?

Since he is intent on teaching our state that no one has to obey the laws I am considering getting a weapon so my family will be protected as our society breaks down into it's lowest level. If I didn't have grand children living here I would definately be looking to move somewhere else.

Disgusted !

October 2007

Here it is fall in upstate New York. On the 26th of this month my grand daughter turns 13 . . . . it happened way too soon for me. They do grow up way too quickly. Today is Saturday and here I am just sitting in the living room watching TV and playing on the computer.

I am working some on a newsletter for my church (United Church of Cohoes) and although I have some ideas getting the various groups to give me anything is like pulling hens teeth. People like to do things and work in the groups but once again the paperwork in not something they like to take the time to do.

Last May my mother in law came to live with us as she could not live alone anymore - she is 91 years old and not able to get around and can;t hear or see too good. I know it is the right thing to do but it has completely changed our lives and we can't go anywhere or do anything and absolutely never have any time to ourselves.
I pray about this situation everyday but it is a challenge to accept it in stride and to remain calm and patient.

We have to decorate for Halloween this weekend this means a lot of trips to the celler to find the containers of decorations we have stored down there. Since we had water in the basement this spring things down there are not stacked up where they used to be so it will be a major job to find them.

Since I turned 60 this year I have about 2 years left and then I think I am going to retire from my job with the state. I had never thought I would like to retire but it is getting harder everyday to get moving and get into work.

So far this season my Tampa Bucaneers are doing great. I just hope that they can get over the two players that they have lost now for the season. I think they can get over this but only time will tell.

National Day of Prayer

Tonight I went to a local church as a kickoff to the National Day of Prayer which is tomorrow. The church was the "Good Grounds Family Church" in Cohoes; I really enjoyed it there with the religious songs and the prayers - I felt good when I left there. I think lately there is a positive Christian force starting to work in our country and I want to help keep the ball rolling. Tomorrow night the final service at my church "United Church of Cohoes" at 7:00.

I wish my family was getting more into religion and praising Jesus but I will continue to set an example for them and someday they will see the light.

See ya,
Dan
